Sierra...

...LOVES watermelon! (in case you were wondering)

4th of July celebration

I'm a little late posting this, but my computer has once again decided that it doesn't like to load pictures, so it's taken me longer than I had hoped. So much for getting everything caught up this week. Oh, well.

We had a fun time on the 4th of July this year. We got to see two fireworks shows! First, we drove up to bricktown on Friday night and watched the fireworks there. We had to walk quite a way to get there, but it was fun. Next year, we may get there a little earlier and spend some time checking out the sights (and the food) in Bricktown. Mark your calendars and join us! :)

When we woke up on Saturday morning, it was raining like crazy! I was really happy that we had gotten to watch fireworks the night before because it sure looked like we were going to be out of luck on Saturday. Daniel and I began to scramble to find other fun things to do just in case. I made a Wal-Mart run and got some crafty things to do and I hit the Redbox for a movie.

The kids and I made some yummy white pretzels complete with red and blue sprinkles. (I forgot to take pictures of those). Then, we made some red, white, and blue popsicles (pictures to come in the next post) and some red and blue kool-aid icecubes (these look really cool in a glass of sprite-and they taste pretty good too). Daniel made some strawberry ice cream-yum!

The kids also made some visors and necklaces to wear. I thought they turned out pretty cute!

The rain finally cleared off in the afternoon, so we started getting ready for the fireworks show. For dinner, we had built a big fire in the backyard and let the kids cook their own hotdogs. I was thankful that it had rained and wasn't quite so hot. I was a little disappointed when we ran out of time for s'mores, but I still have everything ready for another day (when it's not 109 degrees outside).

Then, we piled into the van and headed for the lake. We got there, got a great parking spot, and were just getting settled when the announcer came over the speakers telling everyone that a big thunderstorm was on it's way and to take cover. He said that they WOULD continue the fireworks show after the rain. So, we hopped back in the van to wait it out.

The fireworks didn't get started until 10:30, but it was an amazing show and well worth the wait!
Of course, you can't have a 4th of July celebration without WATERMELON (at our house anyway). So as soon as we got home, Daniel and the kids sliced it up!

The best part of the weekend (for me anyway) was that the kids were had so much fun Friday and Saturday night, they ALL slept until at least 8:15 on Sunday morning! We need to have that much fun a lot more often!

Not Me! Monday

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

Here we go!

*While at the park this week, I most certainly did NOT give my son permission to "water" the tree because we had only been there two minutes and were the only ones at the park. I always make sure everyone "goes" before we leave the house to make sure we avoid situations like this.

*When we went to the zoo on Tuesday, I did NOT pull my hair up and then completely forget to use sunscreen on my neck. My neck does NOT easily burn since it is almost always hidden under my hair. I did NOT pay for that mistake for several days after. I do NOT make this mistake at least once a year.

*Also while at the zoo, it was NOT me who fed my kids dry cereal, goldfish crackers, and cotton candy for lunch. I'm always super prepared and pack a healthy lunch for us when we go on outings. It also was NOT me who then went through the drive thru at McDonald's on the way home and got them a cheeseburger for a "snack". Nope, not me!

*Tuesday evening after going to the late movie with my oh so sweet friend, I did NOT stand outside the theater talking to her for almost the same amount of time it took the actually see the movie. We do not need to plan more time together in the daylight hours.

*Thursday morning, I did not allow my children to eat cake, ice cream, and other non-nutritional things at a birthday party BEFORE they had eaten lunch.

*I did not, then, pay back the mom from said party by feeding her kids cake, popsicles, and chocolate chip cookies at Landon's birthday party on Saturday-BEFORE lunch.

Our "garden"-an update

I know everyone has been waiting in anticipation to know how our garden is doing (oh, you haven't been? Well, I'm going to tell you anyway).

We were super excited the day we planted the seeds and got everything set. We were even excited the next day when we looked out and saw our handy work all set to spring up some pretty, tasty veggies, sunflowers, and pumpkins. We were still mostly excited the next day. If you know us at all you know how (not) long our attention spans are. So, as the days went by and we waited for things to sprout, we kind of lost our enthusiasm. Occassionally, one of us would say, "we need to go out and weed the garden" or something like that and we did keep it pretty well watered. We decided to wait until things grew a little more so that we could be sure what was a weed and what was a veggie.

Well, we never did see anything come up that looked like it might have been put there on purpose, except a few little pumpkin plants and two little sunflower sprouts. We're still excited about the things that did come up (the kids really didn't want the veggies anyway) and they are doing well. When we went out the other day, there was even a flower on one of the pumpkin plants-which means we have a chance of actually having at least one pumpkin! Here are some pictures of our handy work. It's not much, but we are very proud of it, thank you very much!

These pictures are from the day that I didn't take the kids out and show them how to pull the "weeds" (everything that wasn't a pumpkin or sunflower) so that I could have a few quiet minutes in the house. This is also the day they didn't slide down the slide into the baby pool and then into the mud. (see my not me! monday post from this week).

Don't you wish you were as awesome a farmer as we are???

Wednesday's Walk Down Memory Lane #1

For my first Wednesday's Walk, I decided to do a post in honor of Landon's birthday-it's actually next Wednesday, so I may do a second one then. It's hard to believe he's going to be 4 years old next week and going to school in August!
Here are some pictures of the time we spent in the hospital when he was born.

This is Landon in his "space suit" being treated for jaundice. I remember being a little worried when they told me they were going to have to put him "under the light" and thinking of when Cheyenne was in the NICU. She had to stay in the little crib with no clothes, blanket, etc for hours at a time. I hated just having to sit there and look at her like that and not be able to hold her and feeling like she needed to be covered (although I know it was more than warm enough under that light). The only good thing were her cute little "sunglasses" that she had to wear when the light was on. I was so relieved when they brought this in for Landon instead. He just lay there all snug and warm and soaked up that light. Whoever invented this thing was a genius!

Since we got to spend an extra five days in the hospital with him, I had lots of time on my hands. So, I took lots of pictures! I LOVE this one! That little smile still gets to me!
Here is one of the first picture of all my kids together. I love the personalities that come out for each one! I still don't know how we managed with two babies that close together!

And now, a before and after! Landon at about 3 days old and Landon at almost 4 years old!
Happy Birthday son!

If you want to participate in Wednesday's Walk, check out Lynnette's blog for all the details.

Favorite Photo-McKlinky.

This is one of my very favorite pictures of Landon. We were waiting outside the church after a wedding and he decided to pick me some "flowers", roots and all. It shows his sweet side while still letting the world know that he is 100% boy. :)

Not Me! Monday

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

My first Not Me! Monday post! I'm so excited!

*I did NOT find myself at Wal-Mart for one thing or another EVERY DAY last week. I always plan ahead and make a list so that I don't forget anything. I only go there once a week for groceries. I DO NOT need to go there again today because we ran out of honey.

*I did NOT take my kids out and teach them how to pull weeds in our "garden" just so they would have something to do outside and I could have 10 minutes of quiet in the house.

*After the kids finished splashing into the baby pool at the bottom of the slide last week, I most certainly did NOT dump all the water out at the bottom of slide. I did NOT then tell the kids to stay outside and play and dry off while I went in to start some laundry. My children did NOT continue to slide down the slide into the mud puddle I had created and come in not only still wet, but covered in dirt from head to toe. I did NOT immediately put them into the shower.

*We did NOT drive all the way to OKC to watch fireworks in Bricktown on Friday night just because we heard about it on television that afternoon. It did NOT take us longer to walk from the parking lot to where the fireworks were than the show actually lasted. It was NOT a lot of fun and my kids did NOT get in bed after midnight.

*When we found out that there was a big storm heading our way Saturday night while waiting for fireworks at the lake, we did NOT take cover in the van and wait it out rather than get our kids home to bed at a decent time. We did NOT have to wait until 10:30 for the fireworks to start. We then, did NOT go home and feed the kids watermelon and put them to be after midnight for a second night in a row. My kids were NOT all so tired that no one got up until after 8:15 Sunday moring. And I did NOT enjoy my 2 hours of morning quiet time one bit.
