Fruit of the Spirit Unit-Love

We started the second day of school by playing a three-digit-addition bump tournament. I discovered this game last year and we love it! I love that there are so many different versions available online so I don't have to try to create my own. I found this one on teachers pay teachers  right here. (I love this website! So many awesome resources!) Cheyenne was the champion of the day.

After the tournament, I had them draw their beginning of the year self-portraits. I've had them do this at the beginning of each year so far and also at some point later in the school year. It's fun to see their personalities come out in their pictures of themselves.

Next, we talked about ways to show love and I read the story of The Good Samaritan. We watched all three parts of this video on youtube. I almost didn't show it to them because I was afraid it wouldn't keep the interest, but they LOVED it. I'm sure we'll be watching it again sometime.

We also watched this video and sang along. It's been stuck in my head ever since!
We talked about ways to show love and things that were not loving. I gave them a piece of paper with several hearts on it and had them write ways to show love on half of the hearts and things that are not loving on the other half. They cut them out and put them in an envelope in their lapbook.

I also printed out these mini-books for their lapbooks. We used them to write a verse for each fruit. The verse for love was 1 Corinthians 13:4, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud."

After a little recess, we finished up with journals, apple experiment notebooks, and reading from our science textbook.

Another busy and fun homeschool day!
